Construction...

Submarine Dry Dock

The dry dock began construction in 1989 and was just a large shed that would float on water and the submarines would navigate their way in and then be raised out of the water to be maintained. The structure is 200m long, 80m wide, and 47m deep and is said to be bigger than aircraft carrier HMS Invincible.

Unfortunately obtaining information and images of the construction is not an easy task, so i would be grateful if anyone that worked on the site, travelled up the clyde or live on the Island of Cumbrae who have images please do get in touch. As Cumbrae was only 1/2 mile from the constraction and directly opposite there must be some people that have images.

The two images that are shown show the outer structure near completion and taken in 1990
